FPMA Facts
ORGANIZED & INCORPORATED:
The Florida Pest Management Association is a state-wide
organization with its main office located in Orlando,
Florida. The Association was founded in 1945 in Gainesville,
Florida as a non-profit trade association 501(c)6. For
over 50 years it has represented the industry and protected
Floridians.
MISSION:
To communicate the role of the industry as protectors
of food, health, property, and environment; to promote
high standards of business ethics among industry members;
to support research, education, and training within
the industry; and to cooperate with federal, state and
local government for the good of the community and the
industry.
MEMBERSHIP:
1,000 members who are categorized as Active, Allied,
Affiliate, Associate or Active/Allied Branches who agree
to abide by the FPMA Code
of Ethics.
LEADERSHIP:
FPMA's volunteer leadership is made up of six Officers
and fourteen Region Directors.
FPMA also has a permanent Staff
headquartered in Orlando.
COMMITTEES:
The Association consists of standing
committees as well as ad hoc task forces. Committees
fall under the following areas: Government Affairs,
Communications, Membership, Education, Convention and
Florida Pest Control and Lawn Expo. Members
volunteer to serve on committees.
CONVENTION:
The FPMA
Annual Convention is a summer event that combines
social activities with educational opportunities and
features new technical/product information. The location
rotates around the state.
EVENTS and EDUCATION:
The Association offers a full calendar
of technical and educational events around the state
throughout the year - the Florida
Pest and Lawn Expo, Legislative
Days, CEU
University, technical symposia, monthly region
meetings and more.
PUBLICATIONS:
PCO
Magazine is published monthly and has a circulation
of 1,400. The purpose of this four color publication
is to keep the membership up to date on timely topics
within the industry. eAlerts on important issues offer
timely information via email.
REGULATION:
The pest control industry is governed by Florida Statutes
chapter 482, first enacted in 1947. The industry is
regulated by the Department
of Agriculture and Consumer Services - Bureau of Entomology
and Pest Control.
POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE:
FPMA
PestPAC has been established to support candidates
for the Florida Legislature and other elected officials.
